Sofia – In Bulgaria, the coronavirus is spreading in a second wave. The Balkan country, which was hardly affected by the pandemic at first, registered 104 new cases of Covid-19 within 24 hours on Thursday, a record figure since the beginning of the corona crisis. An “exceptional epidemic situation”, originally imposed until June 14, is to be extended until the end of the month.
The previous record with 90 new coronavirus infections in one day was measured on 24 April. Bulgaria is probably in a second wave of the disease, the Chief Inspector of Health and member of the crisis team in Sofia, Angel Kunchev, said on Thursday on the private television station bTV. However, the virus is now spreading mainly locally in networks, so-called clusters. The situation could be brought under control, he said.
