1,400 soldiers, 400 musicians and 200 horses usually march up when the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II (94) is celebrated. Actually, the monarch has her day of honour already on 21 April, but the parade, the so-called “Trooping the Colour” traditionally takes place in June.
Due to the Corona Pandemic nothing is normal this year and so the British head of state had to be content with a slimmed down form. So this year she did not watch the spectacle together with her family from the balcony of Buckingham Palace as usual.
She sits alone in a tent in front of Windsor Castle and watches a small delegation of Welsh Guards and a greatly reduced number of musicians from the Household Division. They also keep the prescribed distance of 1.5 metres in an exemplary manner.
Since Queen Elizabeth’s husband, Prince Philip, had retired some time ago, he also stayed away from this appointment.
For all Royal fans the parade was broadcast live by the BBC.
