▶ The number of new infections is rising throughout Austria
▶ On the trail of the clusters: Almost all Austrian states affected
▶ Seven positively tested in the UN Atomic Energy Agency

No good news from the Corona front! On Tuesday, 520 new cases were reported throughout Austria – as many as last reported on March 31 during the lockdown. The problem child is and remains the federal capital. In Vienna, 340 new infections were fed into the reporting system in a 24-hour comparison. The crisis management of Vienna however said that the high number of cases is the result of a backlog of test results. This means that at the beginning of the week, cases were reported that were already several days in the past.
Whether the situation can still be controlled at present – as experts repeatedly emphasize – is primarily related to the identification of clusters. And since the beginning of the week, several of these have become known.

Corona cluster

Cluster at the UNO City

One of them has formed at the headquarters of the United Nations in Vienna: six staff members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and one from the Office for Drug Control. They are likely to have caught the virus in a store that is only available to UN officials and diplomats. The store has now been disinfected and all employees tested. Since the beginning of the crisis, 32 cases of corona have been reported from the UN quarter.

From the summer camp to the bank branch
Clusters have been reported from almost all federal states in the last few days. In Tyrol, for example, the Somali community with a total of around 160 infected persons is considered the largest corona cluster, and since Tuesday at least twelve cases have been reported in an accommodation for refugees in Innsbruck.
In Salzburg, the number of infected persons has risen to 16 following a camp for young people in Grossarl. It is possible, however, that further infections will come from the families of the young people, they say.
In Freistadt in Upper Austria, the number of cases related to a mosque is increasing. Seven visitors initially tested positive, but the cluster now has 16 affected persons. The trigger was a person returning from Turkey.
In Lower Austria, a cluster in Wiener Neustadt was contained, but a new one has formed in Strasshof: Six people in a construction company are currently positive, all other employees have already been tested.
In Bleiburg (Ktn.) four employees of a bank were infected. One of them later went to a concert – all visitors have already been informed.
