The authorities warn of nationwide scammers who pretend to be consumer advocates on the phone. It is about insurance and alleged lottery subscriptions. People who are called should not agree to contract offers on the phone and should not disclose any personal data.

Consumer advice centre: Beware of false calls
Fraudsters are increasingly trying to exploit the good reputation of consumer advice centres with two well-known scam numbers. It has been reported that there has been an increase in complaints about alleged consumer protectors trying to obtain sensitive data from people over the phone.

The fraudsters are currently using the already known telephone numbers 056818090265 and 056818090264. Deviations in the last digit may occur.

Fraudsters falsely claim that there are alleged reductions in benefits from health insurance companies and that they can put you in touch with experts for supplementary dental insurance. Another scam is alleged lottery subscriptions that are supposed to be cancelled quickly. In the conversations, the fraudsters try to obtain important personal information, such as account details.

Fake calls: What consumers should do
If consumers receive suspicious calls, they should avoid disclosing any information and end the call immediately. Those affected should also report the incident to the police. This way, further measures can be taken to investigate and prevent similar fraud cases.
