The entry regulation will be further tightened. For the first time, commuters will also be required to test and register: Once a week, a negative CoV test with corresponding proof must be carried out.

In addition, registration as part of the “Pre Travel Clearance” will be mandatory, Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) announced today. Furthermore, the fines for violating the mask and distance obligation will be significantly increased.

Instead of the previous 25 and 50 euros, an organ mandate will cost 90 euros for violations of the MNS obligation or distance keeping, Nehammer explained. At the same time, he announced increased controls by police and health authorities in the ski resorts to “put an end to the goings-on,” he said, referring among other things to illegally booked vacation accommodation.

Commuters must present test
In terms of the border control, a negative test will now also be mandatory in the future for all other entrants who are not covered by an exemption. Whether the possibility of shortening this period by a negative test result will fall, is currently still under discussion, it was said after the press conference from the department.

The CoV test that commuters will have to present in the future can be both an antigen and a PCR test, and it can be seven days old at the time of entry, Nehammer elaborated.

Border controls with Czech Republic and Slovakia extended
Existing border controls with neighboring Czech Republic and Slovakia will be extended. The Czech Republic in particular has very high numbers of new infections, and the virus mutations are spreading rapidly, the Minister of the Interior emphasized. With Hungary and Slovenia, there are still ongoing controls.

Details, such as how the controls will be carried out, are currently being worked out by the Ministry of Health in a decree, Nehammer said.
