More than 169 million people have tested positive for the virus worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University. More than 3.5 million infected people have died. More than 1.8 billion vaccine doses have been administered worldwide.
More than half of adult Americans are vaccinated, according to the U.S. government. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said 131 million adults have been vaccinated. A total of 359 million vaccine doses have been delivered, it said. By July 4, U.S. President Joe Biden wants 70 percent of citizens to be vaccinated at least easily. The U.S. is home to 328 million people.
In Lebanon, more than 10,000 people had the Astrazeneca vaccine administered in a single day in a “vaccination marathon” called by the government. Lebanese were able to show up at centers in various parts of the country on Saturday without an appointment, according to the Health Ministry.
Long lines formed in some places, Lebanese media reported. The campaign was aimed at women and men over the age of 30. Such a “marathon” should take place weekly, announced Health Minister Hamad Hassan. Vaccinations had already begun in Lebanon in February, especially for the elderly.

Thousands of Brazilians protested against President Jair Bolsonaro and his Corona policies in dozens of cities on Saturday (5/29). Protesters’ demands included Bolsonaro’s impeachment, the procurement of Corona vaccines and an increase in social welfare in pandemic times. These were among the largest protests against Bolsonaro since the pandemic began. Bolsonaro continues to reject protective measures on economic grounds. In the meantime, he has also cast doubt on the wisdom of vaccinations. A parliamentary committee of inquiry into his Corona crisis management is underway.
