As reported by ORF late Thursday afternoon, Croatia, a favorite vacation destination for many, has tightened its entry rules today, surprisingly and without any notice. Until now, EU citizens (from countries with low infection rates) were considered able to enter Croatia without any conditions or restrictions. This is now changing.

However, at the border control, all travelers are now required to present the new coronavirus certificate – the Green Passport – which is valid throughout the EU. And this is irrespective of where the entrants come from. At present, however, the certificates issued by individual countries are still accepted, which prove that the respective person has been vaccinated, recovered or tested. This was announced by the Croatian police on its website.

Due to the now strengthened border controls, there was congestion at the Gorican highway border crossing on the border with Hungary on Thursday. According to the Hungarian police, travelers had to wait two to three hours for border clearance. The freeway section is also used by Czechs, Poles and Slovaks traveling to Croatia via Hungary.
