Is compulsory testing now coming for Croatia homecomers? Daily Newspaper “Heute” publishes: 328 Corona cases have been traced from Balkan vacationers.
Anyone returning to Austria from Spain, Cyprus or the Netherlands must – as reported – undergo a mandatory PCR test from Tuesday. “We must do everything we can to avoid endangering our own tourist season with imported infections,” Minister Elisabeth Köstinger (VP) said recently, explaining the request. The Minister of Health then enforced it for the above-mentioned countries. But how sensible is this tightening of measures? According to “Today” available figures melted the Covid entries from the Netherlands within a week by a quarter to 50 cases. Cases from Spain also fell by ten percent to 288.
However, there is a real issue with Croatia, which is not covered by the innovation. The destination on the Adriatic Sea, which is appreciated and booked by many Austrians, is now the front-runner as a vacation infection hotspot.
328 cases come from Balkan vacationers in the calendar week 28/29. A full plus of 75 per cent in only seven days! 215 positive findings came alone by the festival “Austria goes Zrce” together.
For comparison: 76 positive findings were brought in from Greece, 68 from Italy, 43 from Turkey and 40 from Germany.
For Croatian returnees, where most travel by car, the procedure would have to be changed. The testing obligation imposed on Spain, Cyprus and the Netherlands applies exclusively to entry via airports. In future, PCR tests will be carried out there and the results will be sent directly to the cell phone. Those persons do not have to go into quarantine, the further procedure then depends on the result of the PCR test.
For those who travel by car to the three destinations mentioned, there will be little change for the time being. Only those returning from absolute high-risk areas will have to fill out the so-called pre-travel clearance, i.e. the entry form on the Internet. “Fully immunized or recovered persons with a vaccination are exempt from all these regulations,” Tourism Minister Elisabeth Köstinger emphasized.
