Vaccination against the Corona virus without registration or appointment – all that is needed is an ID card and the e-card – is proving very popular in the federal capital. More than 47,000 Viennese have already been reached, the city of Vienna announced on Monday as published by the Austrian Press Agency (APA). The decentralized vaccination offer is further expanded, “Impfzuckerln” would not be needed for the time being, it was said from the office of Health City Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ).
Since last Wednesday, two vaccination buses have been on the road in the city. Almost 700 people have been vaccinated against Corona with vaccines from Biontech/Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson at the locations Reumannplatz, Therme Oberlaa, U-Bahn Ottakring, Hütteldorf, Märzpark and Museumsquartier (MQ), whereby the latter had to be moved at short notice to Westbahnhof on Sunday. The designated parking space at the MQ had been parked over.
Almost 1,100 stings against Covid-19 were also placed since last Wednesday at three shopping centers, by far the most – namely over 700 – in the Lugner City, where the vaccination was also advertised accordingly. Also in the Lugner City, in the Auhof center and in the Riverside shopping center one can select between Biontech/Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson.
In the now twelve vaccination containers, some of which have been in place since the beginning of July – the first was installed at the City Hall – 7,500 Viennese have so far had themselves protected against Covid-19. Via the vaccination boat, which has been operating on the Old Danube since July 15, depending on the weather, 150 Corona vaccinations have been administered. “Last weekend, the boat had limited travel because there was not continuous bathing weather,” the Hacker office indicated.
Since July 3, vaccinations have also been given at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) without registration, initially using the AstraZeneca vaccine before all four vaccines approved in Austria were available. Last week, 5,625 shots were administered there, of which 3,798 were for the Biontech/Pfizer vaccine, 1,287 for the Johnson & Johnson product, 491 for Moderna and 49 for AstraZeneca. From July 3 to August 1, 26,140 vaccinations were given at the ACV, and a further 6,489 were given via so-called vaccination vouchers, which were given to interested parties who, due to queues forming in front of busy containers, were initially unable to get in and had to be diverted to the ACV.
The vaccination without hurdles in terms of bureaucracy is extended in the ACV until August 15, whereby one can be immunized against the coronavirus daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. “In total, this is now the sixth week without registration at ACV,” Hacker’s office emphasized. Over-twelve-year-olds can choose between Biontech/Pfizer and Moderna, and over-18-year-olds can additionally choose between Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca. The interval between the second partial vaccination can be arranged flexibly. Due to proven demand, the decentralized vaccination offer will be expanded. A mobile vaccination team will be available on the Danube Island on the coming Sundays. The team can be found on the Leuchtturmwiese (Lighthouse Meadow), which can be reached either by taking the U1 subway (Donauinsel station, exit Donauinsel, head towards the city center and then turn right) or on foot (cross Ponte Kagrana towards the city center and then turn left). Vaccinations will take place on Sundays up to and including September 11, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Another mobile vaccination team also accompanies the Danube Island Festival Summer Tour at the appointments in the districts. Next Wednesday, stops will be made between 2:00 and 2:30 p.m. at Schöpfwerk, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Meidlinger Platz, from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Maurer Hauptplatz and from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Naschmarkt. On August 18, 2021, from 1:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., vaccination volunteers will be served at Viktor-Adler-Markt. From 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., people can get vaccinated at Dornerplatz, from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Floridsdorfer Markt and from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Karmelitermarkt. The vaccination campaign accompanying the Danube Island Summer Tour is jointly organized by the Green Cross, the Operations Staff of the City of Vienna and the Office for Emergency Measures.
