At 31.3 years, the average age of people infected with the coronavirus is noticeably above 30 years again for the first time since the beginning of July.

Of the 3,689 people infected last week (August 2-8), 42.6 percent were under the age of 25. The week before (July 26-August 1), this group accounted for 45.9 percent.

AGES data show decline in infections among 15- to 24-year-olds
The latest breakdown by age group from the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) shows that the proportion of 15- to 24-year-olds who contracted the virus declined from 37.9 percent the previous week to 32.1 percent. The seven-day incidence per 100,000 population dropped from 133.3 to 125.6 in that age group. Adolescents and young adults, however, still contribute nearly one-third of the infection incidence, with the 25- to 34-year-old group following with 23.9 percent.

The proportion of six- to 14-year-olds infected with SARS-CoV-2 has increased, from 5.7 percent to 8.4 percent. Only one in ten infections – 10.5 percent to be exact – affected someone over 55 years of age or 55 years of age in the past week. 4.6 percent, compared with 3.7 percent the week before, of those infected were over 65.
