The federal and state governments have agreed on these eight points.

  1. 3-G becomes 2-G:
Everywhere, where one needed so far 3-G (a certificate for inoculation, recovery or test), apply in the future only 2-G. Only vaccinated and recovered persons will have access to service providers close to the body as well as in gastronomy, hotels and similar settings, in the cultural sector and in sports. There is a transitional period of four weeks during which the first vaccination plus PCR test are recognized.

2) Control in the event sector:

  • If there are more than 25 participants, 2-G duty applies.
  • If there are more than 50 participants, there is a duty to notify the district administrative authority up to 1 week before the event, as well as a duty to appoint a Covid 19 officer(s) and to prepare a prevention concept.
  • If there are more than 250 participants, an event must be approved by the district administrative authority.

3) Mask rule
The FFP2 mask rule applies throughout Austria in all retail outlets, museums and libraries.

4) Innovations in the Green Passport:
Vaccination is to be valid for only 9 months in the Green Passport instead of 12. After that, a third dose is needed. There is a transition period of three weeks. Janssen vaccinees will need a second dose starting Jan. 3, 2022.

5) The third vaccination
Booster vaccinations will be given quickly, and there will also be other measures to increase vaccination coverage.

6) Expansion of testing:
Area-wide expansion of PCR testing services to replace antigen testing with PCR testing as soon as possible. Antibody tests are no longer valid as G detection anyway.

7) Controls:
Compliance with the measures is to be monitored more closely.

8) No more exit controls:
By standardizing the rules throughout Austria, the high incidence decree for areas with particularly high corona numbers and thus also the exit controls from the districts will be dropped.
