The Easter weekend is just around the corner – and many Austrians use the time to travel or visit relatives. The mineral oil managers are rubbing their hands as sales are increasing strongly. Oil prices and the Easter vacations have caused fuel prices to rise again.

Like the Amen in the prayer, it goes up each year also with the prices – also this year. Thus gasoline increased on average by 4 cents, and Diesel by a cent to the previous week. This time, however, the companies are not getting their money’s worth. Saudi Arabia surprisingly announced that it would cut production by 1 million barrels daily. As a result, Brent crude climbed by around 5% to over 84 dollars a barrel.

Diesel is cheaper than Super again.

However, for the first time in three quarters of a year, Diesel is one cent cheaper than super (1.608 euros), averaging 1.598 euros per litre, reports ÖAMTC. Nevertheless, motorists still paid, on average, 19 cents (gasoline) or 23 cents for Diesel more than a year ago.

Nevertheless, price comparison can save a lot of money, as a look at the fuel price calculator (spritpreisrechner.at) shows. Thus on Wednesday in the early afternoon, Diesel costs at the most favourable stations in the country started from 1,529 euros; super was to be gotten in Enns even around 1,458 euros (see diagram below).

Neighbouring countries cheaper

It is even cheaper in some neighbouring countries. ÖAMTC expert Martin Grasslober says that if you drive a gasoline-powered car to Slovenia or Croatia, you should fill up there. ThisDieselapplies to Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic for diesel. In all other countries, it is usually more expensive than here.
