Many expect an extended weekend due to the Corpus Christi holiday on Thursday this coming weekend. The ÖAMTC forecasts lively excursion and travel traffic and sectional traffic jams.
The extended weekend brings heavy travel waves on highways
On Wednesday, many travellers will start their short vacation in the afternoon and evening before the holiday. Therefore, heavy traffic and congestion must be expected on the arterial roads from the cities, according to the club.
On Friday, especially from the early afternoon hours, quite a few people will set off toward local recreation areas or for a short vacation. In good weather, it will also be slow in the Salzkammergut, around the Carinthian lakes and in the Wachau. Dense traffic jams are also expected on the way to the Nova Rock Festival and Erzbergrodeo.

On the weekend itself, according to ÖAMTC, in addition to the return of the short vacationers, especially the travel traffic on the transit routes coming from the Adriatic Sea via Austria towards Germany will be noticeable. In Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, the two-week Pentecost vacations are ending.
Traffic jams are to be expected at times and in sections, especially on the following routes:
- A1, West Autobahn, border crossing Walserberg
- A4, east freeway, construction site Bruck an der Leitha-Ost – junction Bruckneudorf, Nickelsdorf
- A8, Innkreis freeway, border crossing Suben
- A9, Pyhrn freeway, Bosruck and Gleinalm tunnels, St. Pankraz – Windischgarsten and Inzersdorf – Klaus construction sites, as well as Treglwang and Rottenmann, Spielfeld border post
- A10, Tauern freeway, especially in the Salzburg area and the Werfen tunnel group
- A11, Karawanken freeway, before the Karawanken tunnel
- A12, Inntal freeway, border point Kufstein, two-way traffic area Wörgl, greater Innsbruck area
- A13, Brenner freeway, Innsbruck area, Schönberg toll station, Luegbrücke construction site
- A22 (Italy), Brenner freeway, tollbooth Sterzing
- B179, Fernpass road, between Füssen in Bavaria and Nassereith
- At the borders, there may always be waiting times before the Karawanken Tunnel (A11), Spielfeld (A9) and Nickelsdorf (A4) on entry, and at the Walserberg (A1) and Kufstein/Kiefersfelden (A12) on exit.
Driving bans on state roads in Tyrol
For the districts of Innsbruck, Innsbruck Land, Kufstein and Reutte, driving bans for transit traffic are in force on several state roads on Thursday, June 08, as well as Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11, from 07:00 to 19:00. This is to prevent local thoroughfares from being blocked due to evasive traffic in the event of long traffic jams on transit routes. The measures also apply to motorcycles, informs ÖAMTC.
From June 08 to 11, the Erzbergrodeo will occur in Eisenerz, Styria. According to the ÖAMTC, traffic jams are to be expected on the approach from the Eisen Straße (B115) at the show mine. In any case, a sufficiently large time cushion should be planned for the journey.
Traffic flow may be impaired in the construction areas on the Pyhrn Autobahn (A9) between Inzersdorf – Klaus and St. Pankraz – Windischgarsten in Upper Austria, as well as between the Peggau-Deutschfeistritz junction and Übelbach in Styria. In addition, delays are to be expected around the St. Michael junction. In the event area, visitors will be guided to the parking areas, where shuttle buses will be waiting after they have purchased their parking tickets.
