The coming days will still be warm in late summer. However, the weekend will bring an unpleasant change in the weather.
Until Friday, an extensive high-pressure bridge extends from the Iberian Peninsula to northeastern Europe, providing us with late summer weather. Only on Saturday, with a frontal system from the northwest, will it briefly become unsettled before high air pressure reasserts itself on Sunday—the outlook in detail.
From the night to Thursday, the sky remains starry in most parts of the country; in the west, however, compact cloud fields move up in the morning. Early fog patches will form in the southern basins and some alpine valleys, such as in the Klagenfurt or Enns valley. The wind will blow from south to southeast, but at best moderate in the eastern lowlands, otherwise weak.
Thursday will start dry, often sunny, and foggy in the southern basins and some valleys. In the west, a few clouds will move through from early morning, shifting to the east during the day but will remain harmless and only temporarily cloud the sunshine. Thus, the friendly weather character continues to dominate. The wind will blow moderately to briskly from the south. Highs will range between 21 and 27 degrees.
On Friday, there were still little changes; the fog patches in the lowlands and some valleys were mainly clear by noon. Otherwise, the sun will shine frequently with harmless clouds and remain generally dry. On the northern side of the Alps, the wind will shift to the west; in the east, it will continue to come from southern directions, but it will generally blow only weakly to moderately. Highs will reach 22 to 27 degrees.
Saturday will begin dry and sunny in some areas from East Tyrol to Central Burgenland, but cloudy with some rain showers on the north side of the Alps. During the day, there are more showers in the east and temporarily also in the south; local thunderstorms may occur. In between, however, the sun will shine from time to time, most often in East Tyrol and Carinthia and from noon in Vorarlberg. In the Danube region and to the east, a strong westerly wind will blow. A brisk westerly wind with a maximum temperature of 19 to 25 degrees in the Danube region and the east.
On Sunday, sunshine will quickly dominate in the west and the eastern lowlands, but some residual clouds will initially persist. However, these will gradually clear during the morning, and an increasingly friendly mix of sun and clouds will prevail in the afternoon. On the northern side of the Alps, a weak to moderate westerly wind will blow, with highs reaching a maximum of 19 to 26 degrees.
