After more than 20 years, cell phone parking is being replaced by the European market leader, EasyPark.

For over 20 years, parking fees have been paid by app or text message via cell phone parking in this country. But from April, the European market leader for digital parking will take over EasyPark. What’s changing now, and why will everything stay the same in Vienna.

EasyPark has been available in around 120 Austrian municipalities since the beginning of the year, including all major cities and tourist regions. The app is designed to make paying for parking easier and cheaper. This is because parking can be stopped early or extended spontaneously via the app, which enables billing to the minute. All common payment methods—SEPA direct debit, credit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay—are accepted.

It is still possible to use both “Handyparken” and “EasyPark” in 28 cities. Customers who previously used “Handyparken” have until April to switch and will be informed in good time during the transition period.

In Vienna, however, everything will remain the same. Cell phone parking will continue to be available there. This is due to the fact that Vienna itself operates the service and would need a tender to switch to a private provider. In addition, the City of Vienna is very satisfied with the use of cell phone parking in Vienna; it is used in 70 percent of cases where a parking fee has to be paid.
