You probably know the problem: The memory of an iPhone is getting fuller and fuller. Sooner or later, it gets tight, and you must make room again. Do your favorite photos have to go now? Not necessarily, because with the following ingenious trick, you can create space and still keep a back door open.
Did you already know? On the iPhone, you don’t necessarily have to delete apps if you run out of memory. You can also swap them out. Swap them out? What is swapping, and what is the difference to deleting?

iPhone function: swapping apps instead of deleting them frees up space
You can bet that there are many apps on your iPhone that you don’t necessarily need or don’t always need. For example, a game you’ve finished playing or apps you only use when you’re on holiday. Otherwise, they are just wasting valuable storage space. However, you don’t want to lose all your data, settings, or chat histories forever, so deleting them directly is out of the question.
The decisive advantage: If you swap out the app, it will be deleted, but all personal data will be retained. If you reinstall the app later, you can use the app as before and reaccess your data immediately. Good to know: The app icon remains on the home screen. The small cloud next to the app name symbolizes the removal, which can be undone anytime.
Apple offers automation on request
If desired, the removal process can also be automated. The iPhone will then regularly swap out unused apps, thus automatically creating storage space. This is useful for all users who don’t have the time for such tidying-up operations. We also explain how this works in the video above.

Nevertheless, if you no longer want to use apps in the future, please delete them directly to free up space. Otherwise, you’ll keep a back door open for later use by swapping them out—damn handy.
