Citywide 30 km/h speed limit called for in Vienna

Many European cities and towns have been enforcing 30 mph since this year. There are also calls for Vienna to lower the speed limit, but there is no widespread support for a citywide 30.As of this week, 90 percent of the streets in Paris are a 30 zone. In Vienna, too, more and more are slowly being added, such as Thaliastrasse in the Ottakring district from December. Especially in the seventh district (Neubau) there are many 30er limits. New mutant from South Africa -What we know about the virus variant C.1.2

Another corona virus variant with a particularly large number of mutations is spreading from South Africa. C.1.2 could be a “very nasty variant,” a virologist says. Alpha, beta, gamma and delta – these are the variants of the coronavirus that dominate infection events in our country and also the news coverage. But there are many more variants – currently 1,570 – with different mutations, and with each new infection there is a chance that the coronavirus will continue to change or adapt. Swiss researchers advise against rapid antigen testing

A study from neighboring Switzerland is causing a stir. Researchers compared PCR and rapid tests – with devastating results. The research team from the University of Bern made a direct comparison of rapid antigen tests with PCR tests under real-life conditions. For this purpose, a total of 1,465 subjects were tested with both methods. Overall, the PCR test found 141 infected individuals (9.6 percent) among the sample, whereas the rapid antigen test detected only 95 infections (6.4 percent). Thus, only two out of three PCR-positive individuals were also detected by…

End for certain fluorescent tubes and energy-saving lamps

Due to an EU regulation, certain high-consumption fluorescent lamps may no longer be marketed as of September; however, retailers may still sell what is still in stock. This applies to compact fluorescent lamps with integrated ballast – better known as energy-saving lamps – as well as linear halogen lamps with R7s base > 2,700 lm (equivalent to about 140 watts) and low-voltage halogen lamps. Anyone who still has such lamps in their drawer does not have to dispose of them, however, but can use them as normal. In addition, similar…
