AGES analysis – Last Friday’s figure was 1.31 – 1.4 percent increase in infections per day – fewer travel-associated infections.
Vienna. The effective reproduction rate of the coronavirus – how many people on average are infected by one affected person – has dropped to 1.14 in Austria for the period from August 14 to 26. In the previous reference period it had been 1.31. This communicated the agency for health and food security (AGES) Friday evening. Apparently the travel-associated infections decrease.
Also the daily rate of increase in new infections decreased again to an estimated 1.4 percent. Between August 7 and 19, it was 9.9 percent. For Burgenland, the statistics show a reproduction rate of about 1.3 (similar to Styria), in Carinthia it is about 0.8, Lower Austria is about 1.2, very similar to Upper Austria, Salzburg however with a level of about 1.0. For Tyrol the value could not be calculated due to technical problems. Vorarlberg recently had a reproduction number of about 1.0, and in Vienna, too, the reproduction number for SARS-CoV-2 fell to about 1.2.
The reproduction number gives an indication of the development of the spread of the virus. A value of 1.0 would correspond to the situation remaining the same, regardless of the level. Values below 1.0 indicate a declining trend.
The experts around AGES epidemiologist Daniela Schmid and experts from Graz University of Technology: “The declining or stable development of the effective reproduction rate of Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Vorarlberg and Vienna is due to an easing of the occurrence of travel-associated infections. However, the number of newly diagnosed cases daily is still at an increased level.
