Worldwide there are still 12 countries that have not officially reported a Corona case.
More than 32 people worldwide have already become infected with the coronavirus, and almost one million have already died of Covid-19. Nevertheless, there are still 12 countries that have not reported a single case of corona. These are remote islands or dictatorial regimes.
These countries are (officially) still corona free
North Korea
Turkmenistan
Solomon Islands
Vanatu
Samoa
Kiribati
Micornesia
Tonga
Marshall Islands
Palau
Tuvalu
Nauru
Geographic and political isolation
One of these places is called Nauru. This almost circular island is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, very close to the equator and is the third smallest state in the world, just bigger than the Vatican and Monaco. Almost 13,000 people live here on 21 square kilometers. It is already 292 kilometers to the nearest island of neighboring Kiribati, and almost 3,000 to the Australian continent. The geographical isolation is a blessing for Nauru these days. The virus has not yet made it this far out to the ocean. Nauru is considered a corona-free zone. And the government is doing everything to keep it that way.
North Korea had already cut its only sporadic transport connections abroad in February and declared it a question of “national existence” to prevent the coming in of the virus. Whether this was actually successful, however, is doubted abroad because of the close trade and smuggling connections to China. Turkmenistan is similarly isolated as North Korea, but in the south it has a long border with Iran, which is heavily affected. In any case, the state leadership is making every effort to demonstrate to the outside world
The other countries are all island states in the Pacific. Due to the very small number of inhabitants and the very strict entry controls, one can be relatively sure that the virus does not yet exist there.
