The Vienna Health Association has clarified the question of available hospital capacities for corona patients in the capital city. According to this, a total of 550 beds are immediately available for patients suffering from Covid-19, 150 of which are in intensive care units that can be occupied at any time. This capacity can be almost doubled as demand increases, it was said.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, 2,500 patients have been cared for so far, according to the health association: “With the experience we gained in the spring, we were able to prepare ourselves well for the autumn and winter and the increasing number of infections. Close monitoring now allows “very dynamic bed planning”. With the appropriate degree of capacity utilization, additional departments will gradually be freed up for the care of Covid patients.
The Viennese Covid care plan was adapted in the summer and now provides that all clinics of the health association are involved in the care of patients – including the AKH Vienna. In spring, the AKH had only in exceptional cases admitted Covid patients as inpatients.
