Three pharmaceutical companies currently have the most promising vaccines in test phase three or are close to approval:
Pfizer/BioNTech was the first company to apply for approval in the U.S., the EU Commission has already contracted and ordered 400 million vaccine doses.
Secondly, European research around AstraZeneca is getting a chance, the EU Commission has also ordered 400 million doses of its vaccine for EU citizens.
And since Wednesday, the preliminary contracts with the U.S. pharmaceutical giant Moderna have been converted into real deals. The EU will receive 160 million doses of the highly effective Moderna vaccine.
To get full vaccination protection, two doses of vaccine per person must be administered within 14 days.
