Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler is considering extending the Christmas travel restrictions beyond January 10th. In the “Kurier” the Green leader means: “If we succeed that in Austria the infection measures sink due to strict measures, then one should not turn again there, where these measures do not apply”. Kogler refers here to summer disco tours to Slovakia or trips to Switzerland, while looser rules apply there.
In the summer much was to be assigned to Croatia, means Kogler: There it went also completely strongly around Austrian holiday-makers, who made party there. The fact that chancellor Sebastian short (ÖVP) had made this week summer journeys into countries of origin at the Balkans jointly responsible for the second wave, sees Kogler as shortening, which got communicatively into a certain oblique position, which is corrected however in the meantime: Contentwise the travel restrictions are correct. Frankly, I am stricter than the ÖVP.
Last week, Kurz had justified the quarantine obligation when entering the country over Christmas by referring to the summer, among other things. At that time, “infections were brought back into the country by people who had returned from their travels and especially by people who had spent the summer in their countries of origin. Kogler had criticized this as “one-sided and lacking in sensitivity.
