126 more deaths and 2,893 new infections in Austria

In Austria, 126 more deaths of people infected with Corona were reported within 24 hours Friday morning. This means that 4,289 people have died with the virus so far. The number of new infections was 2,893 cases, the Interior and Health Ministries announced. With 3,838 recovered at the same time, the number of actively ill people dropped by 1,071 to 38,789 affected. Hospitals were still treating 3,651 people on Friday, including 572 in intensive care units.

In hospitals, there was a decrease of 129 affected, including a minus of 13 intensive care patients. Within the past seven days, however, the number of patients in hospitals decreased overall by only 329 people. At the same time, 638 Corona-infected people died, or 91.1 deaths per day.

The 2,893 new infections also represented a high figure compared to the previous seven days, where the average was lower at 2,762 positive tests per day. Nevertheless, the seven-day incidence per 100,000 population in Austria decreased slightly to a value of 217.2 (previous day 227.6).

118 of the new infections were in Burgenland, 249 in Carinthia, and 360 in Lower Austria. The highest value was reported in Upper Austria, with 633 positive tests; Salzburg had 169 new cases, Styria 470, Tyrol 216, Vorarlberg 152, and Vienna 526.

To date, 316,581 people in Austria have tested positive, of whom 273,503 are considered recovered. There have been 3,355,391 tests in total, 25,394 within the past 24 hours, where 11.4 percent of results were positive.
