The spokesman of the City Health Councilor Peter Hacker confirmed on Tuesday that Vienna is not thinking of postponing or even canceling the second round of coronavirus mass tests. The construction work for the screening beginning on Friday (8.1) is already in progress. The tests will again be carried out at the three locations: In the Stadthalle, the Messe Wien and the Marx Halle.
The new mass testing in the federal capital will again last ten days, ending on 17 January. The fact that other federal states are doing without this form of testing after the “Free testing” variant has been discontinued does not change anything about the plans in Vienna – also because the preparations here are already well advanced. For Vienna has already brought forward the date, as it did the first time. In the rest of the country the start was planned only for 15 January.
In principle, nothing has changed in the setting of the first round, which will again be carried out together with the Austrian Armed Forces. Only the opening hours have been extended. Instead of 6:00 p.m., it will now only end at 11:00 p.m.. In return, the number of test lanes at the three sites will be reduced. The overall capacity is to remain the same; it is again designed for up to 1.5 million people.
