More than 80,000 people have now died in Britain who were confirmed to have been infected with the coronavirus. This was announced by the government in London on Saturday. Since the previous day, 1,035 new deaths have been reported. Meanwhile, in the French city of Marseille, 21 people have tested positive for the more contagious variant of the corona virus first discovered in England.

According to death certificates, some 95,000 people have already died with or from the Covid-19 disease in the U.K. The number of infections in the U.K. since the pandemic broke out last spring now exceeds three million, after nearly 60,000 more cases were reported on Saturday. The second wave of the pandemic is raging in the U.K. even more fiercely than the first last spring. The government and experts also blame the new variant. It is said to spread up to 70 percent faster than the previously prevalent virus variant.

In Marseille, 21 people have tested positive for the new variant. According to police, the infected people belong to the environment of a family. Meanwhile, according to media reports, Marseille, like other cities, is bringing forward the start of the nighttime curfew to 6 p.m. from 8 p.m. previously.
