Germany is aiming to extend the lockdown until February 14 inclusive. This is according to a draft resolution for the consultations between Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the heads of government of the German states this afternoon. By this date, a working group is to “develop a concept for a safe and fair opening strategy, which also creates the necessary conditions to avoid a renewed increase in numbers.”
According to information from the Reuters news agency, the extension is not controversial. “It is considered likely that we will agree on a two-week extension,” one said. The previous lockdown is in effect until Jan. 31.
Mandatory wearing of medical masks in mass transit and stores
Germany is also to make it compulsory to wear medical masks in local transport and stores. In addition, the rules for home offices are to be tightened, reported AFP, which received the draft resolution.
In Austria, the extension of the lockdown to Feb. 7 inclusive was just announced over the weekend. There, too, comes the FFP2 wearing obligation. These masks are mandatory from Monday in stores and public transport.
