This is according to figures released by the RKI on Wednesday. Exactly a week ago, the RKI had recorded 13,435 new infections and 249 new deaths within one day.

The number of new infections reported within seven days per 100,000 population (seven-day incidence) was 108.1 nationwide Wednesday morning, the same as the previous day, according to the RKI.
The peak of 1244 newly reported deaths had been reached on January 14. For new infections registered within 24 hours, the highest value of 33,777 had been reached on December 18 – but it included 3500 subsequent reports.
The RKI counted 2,690,523 confirmed infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected. The RKI gave the number of those who recovered as about 2,445,300. The total number of people who died from or with the involvement of a confirmed infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 75,212.
The nationwide seven-day R-value was 1.04 (previous day 1.12), according to the RKI situation report released Tuesday evening. This means that 100 infected people mathematically infect 104 more people. The value represents in each case the infection occurrence 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the number of infections is decreasing; if it is continuously above 1, the number of cases is increasing.
