Austria has lifted the temporary reintroduction of border controls with the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Since January, the border with the neighboring countries had been controlled more intensively because of the high infection figures there. As of today, Saturday, this regulation has been lifted, the Interior Ministry announced early on Saturday. Controls of the Covid-19 entry regulation, however, remained in place.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health also clarified the Covid 19 entry regulation. As of Saturday, persons from a state with a low incidence of infection who cannot credibly show that they have stayed exclusively in Austria or their home country within the last ten days must present 3G proof (tested, vaccinated, recovered).

If they do not have proof, they must retake a test within 24 hours. In contrast to vaccinated and recovered persons, tested persons must spend five days in quarantine, but can leave this quarantine after a new negative test after five days.

States with low incidence of infection are currently Andorra, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Liechtenstein, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, South Korea and the Vatican, according to the Ministry of Health.

Entry from virus variant countries – i.e., Brazil, India and South Africa – will be allowed in the future for certain groups of people.

This applies to humanitarian workers, persons summoned by the courts or authorities, escorts entering the country for medical reasons, and persons traveling on business to an international organization, provided they can present proof of a negative PCR test result.
