Health offices in Germany have reported 3165 new Corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. This is according to figures from Friday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard as of 05:08. For comparison, a week ago the figure had been 7380 infections. The RKI gave the seven-day incidence on Friday morning with 29.7 nationwide (previous day: 34.1; previous week: 39.8).
Nationwide, 86 new deaths were recorded within 24 hours, according to the data. A week ago, there had been 192 deaths.
The RKI counted 3,695,633 confirmed infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic, but the actual total number is likely to be significantly higher because many infections are not detected.
The RKI gave the number of those who recovered as 3,527,000. The number of people who died from or involved a confirmed infection with Sars-CoV-2 is now reported as 89,026.
The nationwide seven-day R-value was 0.87 (previous day: 0.83), according to the RKI situation report released Thursday evening. This means that 100 infected people mathematically infect 87 other people. The R-value represents the infection incidence 8 to 16 days ago. If the R-value is below 1 for a longer period of time, the number of infections is decreasing; if it is continuously above 1, the number of cases is increasing.
