The mask requirement in the classroom has been lifted at Austria’s schools as of June 15! However, there are still a few exceptions.
As of today, June 15, there is relief at Austrian schools! Whether HTL, middle school or fashion school – students and teachers no longer have to wear masks during lessons.
Outside of classrooms and group rooms, however, the mask requirement still applies. “It is the case that the mask must be worn when entering the school or also in the corridors,” Martin Netzer, Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, explained in Ö1-Frühjournal.
In cases of suspicion, group lessons or “when the children put their heads together,” however, the mask can of course be worn again temporarily. “Teachers can order that, schools are flexible on that. But as a rule it means: the mask is gone,” said the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education in the Ö1 early journal.
There are also relaxations in gymnastics and music lessons. For example, sports are allowed though safety distance should be observed. Likewise, music lessons, singing and playing music is now allowed again – but only if the safety distance is maintained.
