While Corona rules will be further relaxed in Austria from July 1, there will be tightening in Vienna. Mandatory testing will be extended to children 6 years and older, and living room self-tests will no longer be considered admission tests.
3G rules in Vienna: mandatory testing for children aged 6 and older
Children from the age of six will also need a Corona proof in places where the 3G rule applies – for example, in restaurants. This will usually mean that a test will be required, as children are usually neither recovered nor vaccinated, Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig said.
Once again, the mayor warned against thinking the health crisis is over. “The mutations are serious,” he said after consultations with experts. The delta variant, for example, is much more infectious, he said. The best way to protect yourself, he said, is to get vaccinated. Ludwig also highlighted the testing services offered in Vienna.
Test certificate now applies in Vienna to children aged six and older
However, he pointed out, the proportion of children and adolescents among those infected is already high. At the same time, this age group would now no longer be tested regularly at school during the vacations. The Viennese ordinance now stipulates that children do not have to provide proof of infection from the age of 12 if they want to visit a pub or even an open-air swimming pool – but from the age of six.
It is possible, for example, to use the PCR tests offered as part of the “Alles Gurgelt” campaign. The so-called living room tests, on the other hand, are generally no longer permitted as admission authorization. However, they can still be used for self-testing, it was emphasized today.
Digital Corona living room tests no longer valid in Vienna
In addition, the so-called living room tests – antigen tests that are carried out alone or in premises – are no longer allowed as access authorization. However, rapid tests taken in test lanes or pharmacies can still be used.
Vienna to continue to rely on contact tracing
Vienna will also continue to rely on contact tracing, Ludwig emphasized. If necessary, staff can be increased at any time over the summer, the city leader assured. Related to this, registration in the cafe or restaurant will also remain mandatory throughout the summer: “We will continue to collect contact data in the gastro area.” The federal government plans to enact this requirement as early as July 22.
When visiting hospital facilities, the Viennese must also prepare for stricter rules. For example, only one patient may be visited per day. An FFP2 mask must still be worn. The federal regulation would, in principle, allow a switch to mouth-nose protection here. According to Ludwig, the regional Viennese version of the relaxation regulation is valid until the end of August.
