In Vienna, there are currently 233 active Corona infections with the Delta variant. Of these cases, 37 of those affected are 12 years old or younger.
Corona virus spreads primarily among the young population. That’s why Vienna is lowering the age for mandatory testing for children to six, while relaxing nationwide. After sharp criticism from parents and the opposition, a spokesman for city health councillor Peter Hacker (SP) is now speaking out: “We’re not doing this on a whim,” he writes on Twitter and calculates: In total, 233 (42%) of the infections in Vienna are of the delta variety. Of these active delta cases, 25.3% were detected in under-18s.
In detail, the numbers look like this: Among 13- to 17-year-olds, 22 cases (9.4%) are currently known. 37 cases (15.9%) are 12 years old or younger. The 0-6 age group accounts for only 6 cases (2.6%). Even if, in view of these figures, the stricter testing rules meet with little understanding, Vienna intends to stick to its special path.
