Worried about new CoV variants, Slovakia is drastically tightening its entry rules. Starting July 9, all unvaccinated persons must be quarantined for 14 days, according to a new decree issued today by the government of the EU member state. This applies regardless of the country of origin. A PCR test is possible on the fifth day at the earliest, which can be used to get out of quarantine.
Travelers who have had full vaccination protection for at least 14 days are exempt from quarantine.
The change caused disappointment especially in the Czech Republic, because Slovakia with the high mountains High Tatras is popular as a vacation destination in the neighboring country. Transit travelers are exempt from the quarantine. However, they must stick to predefined road routes.
In the meantime, it has become known that Slovakia is selling back 160,000 unused doses of the CoV vaccine “Sputnik V” to Russia at a purchase price of the equivalent of around 8.40 euros per dose. The reason is the low interest in the vaccine, which still lacks approval by the EU Medicines Agency (EMA). So far, only 10,500 Slovaks have had the first “Sputnik V” dose, with another 8,000 registered for an appointment. The dispute over the “Sputnik V” deployment had led to a serious government crisis in Slovakia.
