Czech Republic introduces mandatory corona testing for entrants
Tougher entry rules for vacationers from Austria come into force in the Czech Republic this Friday. The country’s tourism industry now fears a renewed slump in visitor numbers. “Any such barrier is an obstacle for vacationers,” Vaclav Starek, president of the Czech Hotel and Restaurant Association, said Thursday.
Compulsory testing on entry to Czech Republic
Starting Friday, anyone coming from a so-called green country such as Austria, Germany or Switzerland must carry a negative rapid test result no older than 48 hours or a PCR test result no older than 72 hours. In addition, an online registration form must be completed prior to entry. Those who have been fully vaccinated against coronavirus for at least 14 days are exempt from the testing requirement. Previously, proof of vaccination was valid for 22 days after the first dose.
Health Minister Adam Vojtech had justified the mandatory testing with concerns about the delta variant of the coronavirus, which is considered more contagious. There are exceptions for transit travelers and local border traffic. According to current figures, ten new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants were registered in the Czech Republic within seven days.
