Chancellor Sebastian Kurz was the last guest of this year’s “Sommergespräch” aired via ORF Television on Monday, 6. September 2021.

For large parts of the conversation, the focus was on how the federal government intends to take action against the Corona virus in the fall. The chancellor will also discuss this with the heads of the federal states on Wednesday. In principle, Kurz is strongly in favor of vaccination. It is the way back to normality, he said. “The fact that it is here so quickly is something we should be happy about at least once every day,” he said.

Specifically, Kurz proposes five points:

Intensive care bed occupancy is to serve as the new leading indicator, replacing the seven-day incidence that has been the focus.

There should no longer be a general lockdown. If appropriate measures are necessary, they will only be available for the unvaccinated.

Vaccination readiness is to be increased as far as possible; in addition, booster vaccinations (3rd sting) are to be promoted.

The 3-G controls are to be tightened; decisive action will also be taken against forged vaccination certificates.

Open schools, is the motto. If necessary, there will be intensive testing, rather than homeschooling. Of course, open schools will mean that there will be contagions, the chancellor said. But that is “a fork in the road you have to take” if you want to keep schools open, he said. After all, he said, it has been proven that there are hardly any severe courses among younger children.
