In Chile, children as young as six years old are to be vaccinated against the coronavirus in the future. On Monday next week, the vaccination campaign for children between the ages of six and eleven will begin, Health Minister Enrique Paris said Wednesday during a visit to the city of Arica in the north of the country. The children are to be vaccinated with the CoronaVac vaccine produced by Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac.
Earlier this week, the Public Health Institute had granted the vaccine emergency approval for children six years and older. Chile is among the countries with the highest percentage of vaccinated people in the population. More than 86 percent of Chileans are already fully vaccinated against coronavirus. The vaccination campaign in Chile primarily used the Chinese vaccine CoronaVac.
On Monday, Cuba became the first country in Latin America to begin vaccinating children between the ages of two and eleven against the coronavirus. The socialist Caribbean island is using Soberana 02, a preparation developed there. Cuba has a lot of experience in developing vaccines, but the study results on Cuban vaccines have not yet been independently verified.
