More than 223 million people have tested positive for the virus worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University. About 4.6 million infected people have died. More than 5.5 billion vaccine doses have been administered worldwide.

U.S. President Joe Biden is ramping up pressure on the minority of his countrymen who are still unvaccinated. Speaking at the White House on Thursday (9/9), Biden said many people in the US are frustrated at the nearly 80 million Americans who are still unvaccinated. Thanks to free, effective and safe vaccines, they have the tools they need to contain the pandemic, he said. Addressing the unvaccinated, Biden continued, “We’ve been patient, but we’re running out of patience.” In the future, he said, almost everyone who worked directly or indirectly for the federal government would have to get vaccinated. Companies that have 100 or more employees would also have to implement mandatory vaccination or test their workforce for the coronavirus at least once a week. The new rules would apply to nearly 100 million private sector and healthcare workers in the United States.

In Denmark, the last of the Corona restrictions will fall away starting this Friday (Sept. 10). For example, no one will have to show a Corona passport at certain major events, such as matches in Denmark’s top soccer league. Proof that one has been vaccinated, recovered or tested negative will also no longer be required in discos that have just reopened. At the same time, Covid-19, the disease caused by the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus, will no longer be classified as a “socio-critical illness.” One reason for the final relaxation is the high vaccination rate of 83 percent of all persons over the age of 12. However, restrictions such as covid tests for the unvaccinated or recovered still apply when entering the country from abroad, depending on the country or region of origin.

California’s Los Angeles School District, the second largest in the U.S., is implementing mandatory vaccination for all students age twelve and older. Anyone who does not have a medical or otherwise justified exemption must be fully vaccinated for attendance classes beginning Jan. 10, the school district announced Thursday (Sept. 9). The district’s jurisdiction includes about 640,000 children and adolescents in all grades. Employees are already subject to a Corona vaccination requirement starting in mid-October.
China plans to donate 100 million vaccine doses to developing countries this year. President Xi Jinping said this on Thursday (Sept. 9) during the virtual summit of Brics countries, according to Reuters news agency. In addition, China had indicated last month to provide one hundred million dollars for the vaccination program Covax.

Africa will receive 25 percent fewer Corona vaccine doses than planned by the end of the year. World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director Matshidiso Moeti said Thursday (Sept. 9). The international aid initiative Covax had to revise its projected delivery figures for 2021 downward by a quarter, she said. Reasons include the introduction of booster vaccines and hoarding of vaccine doses in some countries, as well as the prioritization of bilateral agreements over international solidarity, the regional director said.

Only about one person in 5000 has been infected with the coronavirus despite double vaccination. This is shown by new data from America. As the “New York Times” writes, detailed figures of the American states Utah, Virginia and King County were examined. In regions that are less affected by Corona, the risk decreases again and is about 1:10,000. Vaccinated people can ward off the virus, and usually before they infect others or fall ill.
The Japanese government has decided to extend the virus emergency for Tokyo and large parts of the country until September 30. This was actually scheduled to expire on Sunday (Sept. 12).
This is to further reduce the burden on the health system, Economy Minister Yasutoshui Nishimura said Thursday (Sept. 9). There are also plans to gradually return the economy to normal with the help of vaccination certificates. The quarantine period for people entering Japan is also to be shortened from 14 to 10 days. Despite a slight decrease, the current infection figures are still among the highest that have occurred during the entire pandemic.
