Air traffic controllers are responsible for safety in Austrian airspace. They specify the flight route and altitude, issue takeoff permission, give the go-ahead for landing and ensure that aircraft never get too close to each other.

You can visit the air traffic controllers in the Austro Control tower, in approach and departure control or in the Area Control Center. Salary of an air traffic controller at Austro Control:
Starting salary during training: approx. € 1,500 gross
Basic salary for an air traffic controller: approx. € 5,000 gross
According to the job portal “Jobted.at”, the average starting salary as an air traffic controller is approximately € 70,000 gross per year. With four to nine years of experience, the gross salary for Austro Control air traffic controllers rises to about € 86,000, while an air traffic controller with more than ten years of professional experience can expect to earn about € 92,000. The average salary for air traffic controllers with more than twenty years of professional experience is above € 95,000.
Recruiting day is aimed primarily at female high school graduates (Maturanten/Innen)

Multi-stage selection process
The company is looking for high school graduates (Maturanten/Innen) who have a good spatial sense, enjoy working in a team and are stress-resistant. The prerequisite for admission is passing a multi-stage selection process with a final assessment center and a positive medical check by an aviation physician. The training takes about three years and takes place at the Austro Control training center in Vienna.
