Number of immunized intensive care patients on the rise

The number of fully immunized patients in intensive care units is slightly on the rise.

This is according to the internal document of the traffic light commission, as published the Austrian Press Agency. Currently, 17 percent of patients in these wards are fully immunized, and as many as 31 percent in normal wards. This could also be an indication of declining vaccination effectiveness among certain groups over time, the document says.

A cohort study on vaccine breakthroughs is expected to be completed soon, AGES said at the meeting. It said there were already clear signals that the single-dose regime was significantly less effective.

For this reason, the National Vaccination Committee at Johnson&Johnson recently recommended that a booster with either Biontech/Pfizer or Moderna be given as soon as possible. Regarding the age structure in intensive care units, data from Gesundheit Österreich GmbH show that patients are increasingly in the 30-59 age group.

Significant increase in education clusters
As for the continuation of testing in schools, it is conceded that in some states it would have been possible to use level 1, which would have allowed more or less teaching as before Corona.

However, everywhere they stuck to level 2, where testing continues. Styria had pushed for a lower classification, but a recent increase in positive PCR cases in the state was successfully argued against.

In any case, a significant increase in educational clusters was noted by the Traffic Light Commission. The representative of Tyrol in the panel reported, for example, that many of the pupils classified only as K2 are falling ill. On the part of the state of Tyrol, against this background, it is considered essential to maintain the current testing in the school sector.
