The Nuns musical will get a third installment in the foreseeable future. Goldberg is also on board as a producer.
Singing nuns just always go down well – especially when Whoopi Goldberg is the lead singer. So it’s truly amazing that so many years have passed without sequel plans since 1993’s “Sister Act 2.”
That’s about to change, but before we get into the details, let’s first follow up with an earworm:
Goldberg comeback
In 2018, it was still said that Whoopi Goldberg would not appear in a third part at all, but since 2020 we know that this is fortunately not the case. According to “Deadline”, the actress will also act as a producer.
For Goldberg’s comeback in her legendary nun role, Madhuri Shekar (“Welcome to the Blumhouse: Evil Eye”) has contributed the script and Tim Federle (“High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”) will direct.
From nightclub to convent
In 1992, “Sister Act” introduced Goldberg’s character Deloris Van Cartier, a nightclub singer who, as an endangered eyewitness to a mob murder, finds refuge in a nunnery, where she also slips into a habit for camouflage. Under her direction of the convent choir, the singing nuns soon achieve regional fame. In “Sister Act 2,” she then took care of the children’s school choir and got the young talents ready for a music competition.
While a mere year passed between parts 1 and 2, we now have to wait a full three decades for the third film. In this long time, the divinely gifted singing talents have probably had more than enough time to rehearse some rousing songs.
