Health minister appeals how necessary it is to further increase vaccination coverage in Austria. Wolfgang Mückstein announces that to this end he will send out a letter to all Austrians reminding them of the booster vaccination.
6,636 vaccinations have been carried out on Saturday. In total, 5,815,253 people have received at least a partial vaccination, according to the E-vaccination passport data: That’s 65.1 percent of the population. 5,520,291 people, or 61.8 percent of Austrians, are fully basic immunized. 190,328 people have already been vaccinated for the third time.
Vaccination booster
“Only a high rate of twice-vaccinated people and the willingness to receive another third dose of vaccination will help to effectively contain the pandemic,” Mückstein said, according to a statement from his department. At the same time, the health minister appealed, “As with many other vaccinations, according to the current state of scientific knowledge, further doses are needed at certain intervals for the Corona vaccination to maintain protection.”
Currently, it is certain that after two vaccinations with Vaxzevria (AstravZeneca) or with an mRNA vaccine, a third prick is needed for longer-term protection, Mückstein said. The National Immunization Panel also recommends that anyone who has received the Janssen covid-19 vaccine once get a second shot, preferably with an mRNA vaccine and no earlier than 28 days after the initial bite.
Started with the third vaccinations in nursing homes and homes for the elderly. In addition, according to the recommendations of the National Vaccination Panel, it is now the turn of people over 65 years of age, as well as people with pre-existing conditions and risk groups.
