Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg (ÖVP) has invited the provincial governors for Friday to a virtual consultation because of the sharp rise in new corona infections. Already on Wednesday, there had been a meeting in the Chancellor’s Office for this purpose with the chairman of the Conference of Provincial Governors, Tyrol’s Governor Günther Platter (ÖVP).
On Wednesday, there had again been a significant increase in new infections, with a total of 3,727 cases reported.
Schallenberg is “concerned” about this development, as it said in a written statement. Despite the now-fixed 3G rule in the workplace, people must continue to remain vigilant, he appealed to the population, “because we cannot yet draw a line under the pandemic.”
The chancellor advocated a multi-pronged approach: For example, the vaccination rate must be increased, and he also advocated booster vaccinations for those already immunized and mandatory FFP2 masks in places to cover basic needs.
