Due to the exploding CoV numbers, Slovenia is also tightening restrictions as of Monday. As Health Minister Janez Poklukar announced at a press conference last night, public gatherings and private celebrations such as weddings will be banned. Contact restrictions will apply, and only the closest family members will be allowed to meet.
Nightclubs will have to close, and restaurants will only be allowed to stay open from 5 am to 10 pm. Slovenia has already had a strict 3G rule in place at the workplace since mid-September.
The center-right government has to contend with great vaccination skepticism and a growing protest movement of anti-vaccination activists who want to shake up Slovenia’s political landscape in next year’s parliamentary elections.
Home office for civil servants, more tests in schools
The package of measures also stipulates that cloth masks will no longer be considered sufficient mouth-nose protection. Home office will be introduced in public administration. In the future, schoolchildren will have to be tested three times a week at school. Previously, rapid antigen testing was done on a voluntary basis twice a week at home. However, this regulation will not go into effect until Nov. 15. The age limit at which one must comply with the current 3G rule will be lowered from 15 to 12 years.
Infection figures are also rising rapidly in Slovenia. According to official data yesterday, a total of 3,771 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours. The 14-day incidence rose to 1,603 per 100,000 inhabitants.
