In Upper Austria, as in Salzburg, there will be a general lockdown from Monday. This is scheduled to last until December 17.
Retail – with the exception of daily needs – restaurants and hotels will be closed, take-away and click&collect will remain allowed. Schools will be closed, except for care for those who need it, presented LH Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) Thursday evening details.
Lockdown in Salzburg: “Had no other choice”
By December 17 at the latest, it should be decided whether the lockdown must continue, whether there is relief for vaccinated or whether the lockdown can be ended. Until then, a “de facto curfew” will apply with the known exceptions: people are only allowed to go out to buy daily necessities, to go to work or for physical and mental recreation.
After 2,500 new infections were identified in Salzburg, the governor of the province, Wilfried Haslauer, announced that a “strict lockdown” will come into force on Monday. “We have no choice but to introduce a lockdown,” the politician said in a press conference.
Formally, the lockdown, Haslauer said, is issued at the request of the two provinces via the federal government. This also creates the basis for any other federal states. A resolution of the main committee of the National Council is necessary for this, this is expected to meet Friday after the end of the regular National Council session.
