While Austria is arming itself with new tightenings against the widespread arrival of the more infectious Omicron variant, the Corona situation in the country remains manageable. In all districts, case numbers went down over the past two weeks.
From Wednesday to Thursday, 2,147 new infections were registered in Austria. The newly reported cases are thus further below the average of the past seven days of 2,292. In addition, the number of active cases thus continues to fall to 33,470.
In the past 24 hours, 279,487 new PCR tests were performed. This results in a positive rate of 0.77 percent. The seven-day incidence has dropped to 180.25.
There are also 28 new deaths associated with Covid 19 infection to report. Thus, the pandemic has so far claimed 13,595 lives in Austria.
430 people in intensive care
There are currently 1,454 people in hospital, 133 fewer than the previous day. 430 people are still being cared for in intensive care units, a decrease of 29.
