More than one million people have died in Eastern Europe in connection with the virus since the first recorded cases of Corona in China about two years ago, according to calculations by the Reuters news agency. Among the worst-hit countries in the region are Russia, Poland and Ukraine, the data show. A total of 1.04 million people in Eastern Europe died from the virus. In Europe, a total of 1.87 million deaths were counted.
In Russia alone, more than 87,000 people died in November in connection with the coronavirus, a monthly record since the pandemic began, according to official data. In most cases, the virus is considered the main cause of death, the Rosstat statistics agency said Thursday in Moscow. The Russian government’s figures for the previous month are much lower, at 37,000 deaths, according to state agency Tass. According to the report, the discrepancy is explained by the fact that only cases are recorded in which Corona was the main cause of death and confirmation of infection was quickly available.
