The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reports that symptoms have been observed in Omicron patients that were not present in previous mutations.
Unlike most mutations, the highly contagious Omicron variant is characterized by entirely Corona-unique symptoms.
In most countries around the globe, the Omicron mutation is slowly but surely taking the top spot in new infections, including Austria. While many questions remain regarding the danger posed by the variant and its transmissibility, symptoms have been observed in omicron patients that have not yet been observed in connection with the coronavirus.
Gray lips as a warning signal
The symptoms of an Omicron infection, the course of which is described by doctors and patients as “mild”, are similar to those of a common flu, as the English “Mirror” writes. Occasionally, pale gray lips, skin and nail beds have been observed in omicron patients.
These symptoms are an indication of a low oxygen content in the blood, as the American health authority writes. In this case, the agency advises affected individuals to seek medical treatment as soon as possible.
Fatigue and night sweats
Breathing problems, persistent pain and persistent fatigue are also considered symptoms of omicron infection, as are skin rashes or night sweats. According to Angelique Coetzee, who was the first physician to warn of the new variant, omicron patients may also experience unusually severe headaches and pain in the limbs.
