In Austria, delivery is expected from the eighth calendar week. However, postponement is possible.
Corona vaccinations using the drug from U.S. manufacturer Novavax are expected to be delivered in the eighth calendar week, or Feb. 21-27. in Austria.
However, the exact date is not yet fixed and can still be postponed, reported the Austrian Ministry of Health after an APA inquiry. Most recently, the vaccine was expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2022, but no exact date was given. Austria has ordered 750,000 doses of Novavax for the first quarter of 2022. This is intended to target in particular those people who have previously refused vaccination.
The Novavax product was recently approved as the fifth Corona vaccine in the EU. Two doses are injected about three weeks apart. It is a protein vaccine – so it is based on a different technology than previously available Corona preparations. Its effectiveness in protecting against symptomatic infections was reported by the EU Medicines Agency (EMA) to be around 90 percent. Experts pointed out that not as much is yet known about the new vaccine as about the other preparations that have been widely used for some time.
