The seven-day incidence of new Corona infections in Germany has continued to rise. It was according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in the morning nationwide at 1156.8. On Saturday, it had been at 1127.7, on Sunday last week still at 806.8. The incidence quantifies the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days.

According to the RKI, citing data from health offices, the number of new infections within 24 hours in the morning was 118,970 – after 189,166 on Saturday and 85,440 on Sunday last week. The RKI added that 59 additional coronavirus-related deaths were also recorded.

Since the start of the pandemic, health departments have recorded a total of 9,737,215 cases of infection, according to the RKI. The total number of registered corona deaths in Germany now stands at 117,725, and the RKI puts the number of people recovered from corona illness in Germany at around 7,564,200.

In November, the federal and state governments defined the so-called hospitalization incidence as the decisive yardstick for tightening or easing the Corona measures. This value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants are hospitalized within seven days due to a Corona infection. According to the latest RKI report, the hospitalization incidence nationwide was 4.72 on Friday, which means that the value has recently increased significantly again after several weeks of stagnation.
