Today, the number of people who have fled Ukraine has exceeded the mark of two million. This was announced by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). 1.2 million refugees have arrived in Poland so far.
Refugee arrivals since February 24, 2022, as of March 8.
UNHCR chief Filippo Grandi compared the current refugee situation to the Balkan wars in Bosnia and Kosovo, leading to a significant movement of refugees. Those had involved “maybe two or three million” people, “but over eight years. Now it’s eight days.”
